Youth Racing U14 & U16 program Details

SNCC’s Youth Racing Sprint Canoe/Kayak programs U14 (under 14) and U16 (under 16) focuses on teaching basic skills in sprint canoe and sprint kayak for youth ages 10-16* in an encouraging and fun-focused environment. At the conclusion of the term, the paddler will be familiar with the joy of an active lifestyle and a heightened ability to enjoy the beautiful Welland Recreational Waterway. The program content is the “Learn to Train” of Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development pathway. This program provides an opportunity to be in single boats, as well as learn introductory principles of sport training and healthy approaches to sport.

Participants will have a chance to compete locally if interested (not required).

Requirements:

Paddlers must be between 13- 16 years of age to participate in U16
Paddlers must be between 10 -14 years of age to participate in U14

Recommended (not mandatory):

One week of Canoe Kids Summer Camp is recommended as prior experience.

Program Schedule 2024:

Winter Session: November to April
Full On-Water Session: May to November
Spring Session only: May to June
Summer Session only: July to August
Fall Session only: September to November
At Coach's discretion, on-water paddling may begin before May 1 or end before November 30.
