Dragon boat is for adults of all ages, genders, and fitness levels. It is a team sport with crews up to twenty paddlers. If you have never paddled a dragon boat, you are encouraged to jump right in or attend FREE Learn to Paddle sessions.

2023 Canadian Dragon Boat Championships are taking place at the Welland International Flatwater Center.  South Niagara Canoe Club is recruiting dragon paddlers for all age divisons. No experience necessary.

Le bateau-dragon est destiné aux adultes de tous âges, sexes et niveaux de forme physique. C'est un sport d'équipe avec des équipages jusqu'à vingt pagayeurs. Si vous n'avez jamais pagayé sur un bateau-dragon, nous vous encourageons à vous lancer ou à assister à des séances GRATUITES d'apprentissage de la pagaie.

    Canal Dragons (includes Hope Floats)

    Canal Dragons Mixed Dragon Boat Crew include our Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Crew, Hope Floats.  


    Winter session 2022/2023

    This is an excellent program to build on your strength, fitness and technique through the winter to prepare for the on-water season. 

    90 minute sessions split between the gym and paddle tank.


    Schedule:   

    Registraton open!

    January 23 2023 through March 28 2023

    No practice on stat holidays.

    May participate in 1,2 or 3 sessions per week.  

    1x per week = $100, 2x per week = $200, 3x per week =$280

    Saturday sessions are recommended for athletes that want to step it up a notch and are enthusiastic about racing.

    Price: Payment may be made in installments

    6:30-8:00 pm or 4:00 - 5:30 pm

    Due to covid-19 variable restrictions and rules will be placed by all levels of government, the WIFC and SNCC.  All registrants must attest to being vaccinated. Proof required upon request. Covid-19 rules must be followed at all times.  Click here for covid-19 rules.

    FREE INDOOR DRAGON BOAT SESSION WITH OUR CREW - Whether you have never paddled before, or are a seasoned dragon boater these free indoor sessions are for you. All are welcome. 

    Mondays 4:00 -5:30pm & 6:30 - 8pm

    Wednesdays 6:30 - 8pm

    Saturdays 9:30 - 11am - Crew members that train on Saturdays are serious minded paddlers that are committed to improvement. Novices are welcome, but need to be prepared to jump right in for Saturday morning sessions.

    Drop in and Learn to Paddle spaces with the crew are limited to 6 participants per session. Maximum 3 free sessions per person. 

    No experience necessary.  Have fun, learn the sport and the stroke and gain the skills and confidence to join a Dragon Boat crew.

    LEARN TO PADDLE DRAGON BOAT INDOORS!!!  


    If you can't find a date/time that suits your schedule, please add your name to the waitlist. We are planning to schedule more sessions.


    Learn to Paddle sessions brought to you by Ontario Trillium Fund provide the opportunity for Niagara Region residents to try the sport of Dragon Boat in a safe and fun environment at no charge. 

    No experience necessary.  Have fun, learn the sport, the stroke and gain the skills and confidence to join a Dragon Boat crew.    Ages 18 - 65+

    At the Welland International Flatwater Centre in the indoor tank.

    Dragon Boat Canada steering certification course.

    Trainer: Scott Murray


    This free 4 hour steering course is for South Niagara Canoe Club members only and has been paid for by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.  


    Volunteer paddlers are required and are asked to register here. 


    Upon completion of this course, participants will need to fulfill these additional requirements in order to be deemed Officially Certified by Dragon Boat Canada:

    1. Be deemed "Ready to Race", complete your first race at a regatta, and notify your instructor (Scott Murray)
    2. Successfully complete your Pleasure Craft Operators License (Boater Exam)
    3. Successfully complete your basic/standard First Aid (any First Aid provider)
    4. Successfully complete the online course, Safe Sport (Safe Sport)


    Spaces are limited. If there is space available after all South Niagara Canoe Club members have had first refusal this course will be offered to members outside of SNCC at the same price offered through Alkame. $150 plus hst.
