Dragon boat is for adults of all ages, genders, and fitness levels. It is a team sport with crews up to twenty paddlers. If you have never paddled a dragon boat, you are encouraged to jump right in or attend FREE Learn to Paddle sessions.

2023 Canadian Dragon Boat Championships are taking place at the Welland International Flatwater Center.  South Niagara Canoe Club is recruiting dragon paddlers for all age divisons. No experience necessary.

Le bateau-dragon est destiné aux adultes de tous âges, sexes et niveaux de forme physique. C'est un sport d'équipe avec des équipages jusqu'à vingt pagayeurs. Si vous n'avez jamais pagayé sur un bateau-dragon, nous vous encourageons à vous lancer ou à assister à des séances GRATUITES d'apprentissage de la pagaie.

    CANAL DRAGONS 

    Canal Dragons Dragon Boat Crews

    Mixed, women's, cancer survivor & breast cancer survivor crews

    Adults of all genders and fitness levels welcome.  


    This program focuses on individual and team development, fitness, strength and technique.


    Most years Canal Dragons attends 3 -5 races. This year is special with the Canadian Dragon Boat Championships taking place on our watersWe plan to attend up to 9 races this year including the Canadian Dragon Boat Championships .

    Racing is optional, and racing fees are additional. You may attend as many or as few races as decided between you and your coach.


    Participants will be assigned to boats/crews by the coaches taking into consideration crew and paddler needs and goals.  


    Spring, Summer and Autumn sessions 2023

    Schedule & Member Price:  

    Full on water session May 1 - October 30 $200

    Payments may be made in installments

    No discounts for vacations or sick days, prices have been developed with both in mind.

    No practices on holidays.


    Do you wish to join for part of the on water season only

    Spring May 1 - Jun 28  $100

    Summer July 3 - September 14 $120

    Autumn drop in fee $5 per session


    You may join us mid-season. Simply register for the remainder of the on water season and prices will be prorated to the end of the season, your invoice will be updated and reissued.


    Non-member price:

    $350 for the season.  Membership recommended. See the Join-Us tab. 

    Session Schedule:

    Mondays & Wednesdays 6:30-8:00pm

    The schedule changes in autumn when the days get shorter.

    Covid-19

    Due to covid-19 variable restrictions and rules will be placed by all levels of government and SNCC.  We ask that you attest that you have been vaccinate and random proof of vaccination checks will be done. Click here for the covid-19 rules.

    Spring season May

    No experience necessary.  Have fun, learn the sport, the stroke and gain the skills and confidence to join a Dragon Boat crew.    All ages and genders welcome.


    Free learn to paddle dragon boat sessions on the recreational Welland Canal @ the Welland International Flatwater Center are provided by South Niagara Canoe Club with the support of Ontario Trillium Foundation.


    Dragon Boat is a paddling sport for recreational and competitive athletes.  The sport is governed nationally by Dragon Boat Canada (DBC) and internationally by International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF).

    No experience necessary.  Have fun, learn the sport, the stroke and gain the skills and confidence to join a Dragon Boat crew.    All ages and genders welcome.

    Learn to Paddle sessions brought to you by Ontario Trillium Fund provide the opportunity for Niagara Region residents to try the sport of Dragon Boat in a safe and fun environment at no charge.

    This inclusive dragon boat session is designed for Special Needs individuals. 

    Family and friends are welcome to paddle or watch.  All paddlers and volunteers must register.

    Friday evenings 6:15 - 7:30 pm.

    July 7  - August 25th  $35

    August 26th - Hope Floats Challenge Dragon Boat Festival 


    No practice on July 21st 

    Course is closed for the Canadian Dragon Boat Championships


    Registration fee includes racing fees for the Hope Floats Challenge Dragon Boat Festival Saturday August 26 2023.  

    Location:  Welland International Flatwater Center

     

    All equipment supplied.   

    It is recommended to bring your own life jacket if you have one.

    Come see what's beyond the race finish line on a fun 1.15 hour paddle along the Welland canal. There are visual delights to enjoy all while your history host gives you some interesting background info on the Welland area's past and present. 

    Choice of two tours 9:00 am or 11:00 am
